Memories and Money, Jewelry and Imitation

When I was young we (girls) all wanted to have gold and diamonds stuff. I remember when a friend of mine got a nice chain with a little ball with tiny diamonds and rubies for her birthday. Yes, she was feeling grown up. She used it for whole 6 months. Then it was stored in her drawer.

By the time I met my husband I already knew I was not a big fan of very expensive jewelry so we had it clear, I choose my stuff. However, he did choose my engagement ring and I still use it after 9 years of marriage.

This post was inspired one of my friends.

She decided to sell all her jewelry. ( I applaud it as she wasn’t using it) I took her to “my guy” (because everyone has to have to have a “guy”)

There she was, with a big bag. Every piece was in the original box with certificates carefully stored for years. As “my guy” was opening each box and checking on every piece she would say a story of where and when she bought that particular item. She was looking kinda sad. She usually doesn’t like to show it to me because I look at every action as a new beginning for something better. I could feel it and see in her eyes but deep inside I knew that it was all for good.

She even could remember how much she paid originally and how much it was worth. and this is when it actually hit me. unless it is a really antique item with good quality stone, nobody cares. they will buy it as gold and send to melt.

Before it would’ve had more value, but nowadays everything is automated and made from molds nothing is unique.

So my advice, if you have something stored and are not planning to use it, sell it and get yourself something that makes you smile.

And what about accessories will you ask. have what you use, buy yourself nice quality timeless pieces that you can use with different outfits. or buy yourself that unique statement necklace, ring, bracelet. And use it.  USE is the keyword here.
