So you are coming to Miami.

You already booked your flight your hotel and you are so ready for some sun and party.
So let me help you with some useful tips here to make sure your stay here will be a top notch.

Ok, first thing first.  It probably will be hot. Ok, not probably, definitely will be hot.  You are expecting it to be hot. But there is an exception to any rule.

I know Miami sounds so warm and nice (if you are following me on Instagram you see me always in summer clothes) and you are coming from that cold and snowy place where you barely can tolerate walking 5 min without freezing.

Believe it or not, we also have our winters and there is the biggest mistake most of the visitors make.

Expecting Hot and humid weather is understandable but you might run into a not very unpleasant surprise coming out of the airport or waking up in the morning.

The truth is, once in a while from December to mid-February we have cold days. Those are days when your hometown (if you live up north) receives a snowstorm or a blizzard. Of course, we cannot compare our winters to yours but you don’t want to get a cold on vacation and spend days in your hotel room with a bowl of hot chicken soup.
And if you are coming from warmer places like South America or Central America then this will be even more unpleasant experience.
As we don’t want it to interfere with your vacation, here is the packing guide for you:

Pack A Jacket

This is my favorite type I have one and take it everywhere because it folds in a small pouch and it is easy to carry it in my backpack. This way if I happen to stay away from my hotel or home late into the night it is easy to unfold and wear. We will see Miami and wear all winter imaginable clothes but that is because we are not used to cold and also most of our winter clothes is not really suitable for real winter weather. it is more like a fall type of clothing.

Pair of Jeans or cozy leggins

I live in Miami Beach and just so you understand the number of people we receive yearly brings the second biggest state revenue after Disney World. That’s a lot! and you have no idea how often, in winter, I see people freezing because they didn’t pack anything winter-like. It actually happened to me when I visited Miami for the first time in December. Overnight temperatures dropped 30 degrees And I woke up to not having any clothes and had to spend my day shopping.
Temperatures here can go down as 40F (4C) and trust me everyone feels it. You can be coming from the coldest place on earth but if you are having a beach day with 80-85F (27-29C) and a very next day or even same day at night temperature suddenly drops to 40-50F (5-10C) you will feel it.

Warm and Cozy socks

You will really appreciate having brought those. Dis you know the old saying : “cold enters through the feet” I didn’t understand it for many years, but have you notices how you feel refreshed if you remove your shoes in hot day? that is because feet feel cold and warm faster and somehow our body reacts to what feet think.

Socks will not take lots of space in your suitcase but you will definitely use them during cold days.

Poncho

Even that winter is mainly dry season sometimes nature doesn’t agree and we get a rainy one. The good news is that if it is raining the temperature will not be that cold. But just before getting a cold day there usually at least scattered rain in the area. Why I am suggesting poncho instead of an umbrella? well, the poncho will cover you whole, while umbrella only covers your head, because when it rains in Miami it doesn’t rain in a straight line, it rains with lots of wind, the good thing it ends fast. Also, an umbrella takes space of your hand and you have to be holding it for a while.

Beach Gear and pair of flip-flops

The good news is those cold days will last no more than 3-4 days and everything will go back to normal and in no time you will be in the beach baking under the sun.
So don’t forget your hat and your sunglasses and of course your swimsuit.

And of course flip-flops
These little wonders are the most used type of shoe in Miami. Sandals are considered at a higher level already. You can go almost everywhere in your flipflops people will just think you are local (unless you are using flipflops during the cold front days)

PArty Gear

Because you are in Miami among other things that you will need is a party outfit. And please, leave your little black dress at home. I know little black dress is the most versatile item of everyone’s wardrobe and it is a chick and classy and timeless and works for every occasion… Well you are in Miami and Miami lives and breathes colors, so let your inner adventurer go wild and bring a colorful dress!

A pair of heels

If you are a regular in clubs you know what to do but if you are just happened to visit Miami you must visit a club at least once. You don’t have to stay all night partying, stay how long you like, but you will need nice heeled sandals.

And we cant forget about little bag to go with your sandals.

As we are partying don’t forget to visit Ocean drive. Here are some  useful tips on how to make the best and safe visit to Ocean drive

For the rest, you can live a whole week in a beach dress or a beach cover. we are very casual about it.

Let me know in the comments how was your stay in Miami.
