Shopping Tips To Always Get What To Wear

I am not a fun of shopping days. I never was able to spend the whole day going from store to store buying things.  I still can go walking around and even entering stores while chatting with a friend, i will not end up purchasing anything.

Some years ago I decided to go more minimalistic and spend less money on clothing and stuff. however once I started loosing weight I needed to get new clothing, every 3-4 month. I took it as a perfect opportunity to change my closet and try to have less pieces but never have the “I don’t have anything to wear” problem.

First I had to change my way of shopping. It didn’t come at once and God bless return policies and long lines to the cashiers (I call it time to rethink).

First thing first, take a picture of your closet. Once you are in the store you will not remember all you have (even if there are only 10 pieces in your closet). This way you will not purchase something similar to what you already have.

Every time you have to dress and get to the point of “I don’t have anything to wear”, take a note, not a mental note but a real one, on your phone is better. write down what do you mean and what would you like to wear. Next time you are in store your notes will remind you what to look for.

When trying the clothing on in store, if you have to turn around and think if you really like it, don’t buy it. if you have to convince yourself that you like the piece most probably you will not wear it. Buy something that makes you smile on the first try.

Think how many times will you be able to wear it. If you liked that cute cocktail dress think how often you go to cocktails? are they with same people? is this beautiful flower print is easy to remember? Be honest. I still have an amazing dress that cost me several hundreds of dollars and I only wore it twice. It was too dressy for some occasions and as most of events where I can wear it are attended by same people and I don’t want them to see me clearly in the same dress.

Which takes me to the next point

Get simple classic shapes and colors but accessorize. If you are not a fun of bland colors (like me) you still can get a hot pink blouse or skirt or even dress. You can use it in so many ways combining with accessories, shoes and other colors and prints.

I will end the list of rules for now. Might return to the topic with more advanced tips some day, for now will leave you with this last one:

Do buy that unique one piece that makes you feel sexy and fancy. Something that has your name all over it. Allow yourself to be different.
