Dinner at Social on Ocean Drive

When we travel we become tourists. We are curious about exploring new locations and new places. we eat local food and some of us avoid popular tourist locations.

Once in a while, mainly when work gets me so busy that traveling has to be pushed aside, I implement a technique that maintains my traveler fire alive.
I become a tourist in my own town.

So here in Miami, mostly in Miami beach, we rarely go to Ocean drive. there are many reasons, some just don’t like that multitude, and some find the prices to be too high (they probably are and that is the reason for my blog, to show places where locals go). But at the end of the day, when you are dreaming about travels and that disconnection along with that energy that comes when you travel, I don’t see a better option than just set my mind as a tourist and head to Ocean drive

I have to confess, I was not planning on doing that yet but one of my best friends, who is also one of the top VIP concierges in Miami Danilo Guirola (on the left of the picture) insisted for us to try it. I learned to blindly follow all his recommendations as besides being in the top of the Hospitality industry locally, he is an avid traveler himself and as a big lover of a prime level service, all his recommendations or events are always organized with the same fine touch.

32 Oz drinks
Appetizer sample

if you want to experience it all, head to the 9-11 block. You have Mangos, Fat Tuesday, Cleavelander, Palace and a great restaurant called Social.

Plenty outdoor seating under a clear sky as well as indoor seating for AC lovers. you will be kindly greeted and accommodated.

Chicken Wings Appetizer
Coconut Shrimp Appetizer

If you are a regular reader you probably already noticed, my blog is not about reviews, so if I don’t like the place for some reason I will not post about it (if you are not a regular reader, subscribe for updates and join my tribe)

So let’s get to business. Or should I say to drinks…. because when you are on Ocean Drive a giant drink is a must!
They have giant in any drink!

Fried shrimp
Fried Calamari

Choose from mojitos, caipirinhas, margaritas, specialty drinks and even sangrias. We went for a smaller option (32oz) to take it easy because it was Monday…
And of course, dinner starts with an appetizer. If you are not very hungry you may skip on it, or just order appetizers as they are pretty big. We were a group of 4 with one of us not eating seafood and another not eating any meat (lucky me I eat it all) so the appetizer sampler was actually perfect offering 4 different types of appetizers and every one of them was delicious.
By the time we finished our appetizers, our 32 oz drink also came to an empty state of affairs, but hey.. what you’re gonna do.. you are on vacation right? of course, we ordered another round!

Ribs with Potato
Churrasco with Garden Salad

Let me tell you about the food. The menu has something for every taste. there are kinds of pasta and salads, tacos and fajitas, paellas and, of course, fish and meat.
As a menu, our orders were very different. Fajitas, pasta, ribs, and churrasco. I only substitute rice and plantains for a garden salad. Dishes are good to share so basically you can easily have 2×1 dinner including a drink.
A service charge of 20% is included and it states that on the menu so it is hard to miss. We felt like kings and queens. The food was great and the service was really fast and with a smile.

We were pretty stuffed but could not pass on a desert even that we had to share it because the space in our bellies was very limited at that time. And I can tell you that tiramisu was beyond delicious. soft with enough taste of coffee not oversweet, just as it should be.

It was Monday and the restaurant was full. Tables didn’t stay empty for a long time. A guitar player and lady passing by with beautiful red roses for sale really helped to transport us to a vacation place and added a touch of romance.
