Riviera Hotel Staycation

Art Basel just ended, visitors left, streets became empty and we, residents got all drained and tired from all excitement of the events, exhibitions. I have never been to NYFW but I would guess Art Basel is similar to it but on an art side.

If you don’t know what is Art Basel check my post here and consider coming next year.

So it is over and there is nothing better than just taking a day off and escape.  I can’t be more grateful to the Riviera Hotel for hosting us for that relaxation day.

Riviera hotel is one of many small boutiques hotels that create that famous South Beach charm. Locate in the restored historic art deco building it is like stepping in to a history but filled with a comfort and luxury of modern days. I am a huge fan of small boutique hotels with personalities. it is like meting new and old friends and have a conversation.

Lunch at Riviera

We arrived just in time for early lunch (breakfast ends early) but always with mimosas at the cozy Mas Cuba Cafe.

Dishes are not that big as in many Miami Beach restaurants so you can easily order several and taste the real Cuban cuisine and experience a real cuban hospitality.

From the first bite into Tostones Habaneros you know that is a comfort food and you feel  and smell vacation (even if it is just for 1 day)

The menu has several options for every taste so I am sure everyone in your party will be pleased. It goes from ceviche and empanada appetizers to salads and sandwiches and extends into a more filling main dishes as Ropa Vieja (not going to explain, order it and taste it for yourselves), always prepared with a twist of creativity.

But the real jewel of the meal came so unexpected form the kitchen and surprised us at the higher levels. I am talking about fresh delicious churros. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside in a dulce de leche bath…!!! oooooh they were so good!!!! (this is when I broke up with my diet.. because churros treat me nicer)

Mas Cuba Cafe located in the courtyard of the hotel and is a very instagrammable place. If you are up for creative shots you will find here many spots to unleash your creativity un photography.

Riviera is located within 2 buildings first one is very artsy with colorful graffiti on the walls and another one is more regent style. both buildings are located across the street of each other.

Once fed we were ready to chill.  So we went across the street straight to the jungle looking pool that receives you with welcoming shade (so much needed in Miami) and a freshness of live vegetation. This is a real gem hidden from outsiders and worth of any celebrity to keep their privacy.

I do have to mention that we got spoiled by Pedro Alvarado who is a concierge at the Riviera and he will go not one, but several extra miles for you so don’t be shy and if you are looking for any exciting experience just ask. From most popular clubs and partying with Paris Hilton to intimate dining on a private island of Miami Bay. It will be done for you by Pedro.

We were received in the pool area by Pedro and a bottle of bubbly champagne. Just because here in Miami Beach there is always something to celebrate. and do I have to say our glasses didn’t have a chance to dry.

After all that sunbathing and champaign a nap was a must. Beautifully and tastefully decorated room completely transports you into a Gatsby era.

While Yves was making some notes and edits to recently recorded videos I managed to finish almost all tray of goodies filled with delicious chocolates and tasty crackers. (who can resist those right?). And after a 20 min nap (or sugar coma) we were ready to enjoy  sunset views in a rooftop pool just on time before the dinner.

I will not include our dining experience here as it deserves its own post. But I promise to post about it soon.

So for those Miamians who think they need a week to relax and emerge in a vacation vibe, you should try a day escape at the Riviera. I promise you will have the best time and will be renewed by the next day.  And don’t be shy on the champagne  because this is what we do on vacay right?
